The Taliban have officially held talks with India for the first time since its capture in Afghanistan.
In Qatar’s capital Doha, Taliban’s political chief Sher Mohammad Stanikzai met Indian Ambassador Deepak Mittal there.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, it has been said that in the meeting held at the request of the Taliban, the security of Indian citizens trapped in Afghanistan and their return to the country were discussed.
India expresses concern over terrorism
In this meeting held at the Indian Embassy in Doha, the main focus was on the safe return of the Indian stranded in Afghanistan. Apart from this, talks were also held about such Afghan citizens, especially minorities, who want to come to India.
Mittal expressed India’s concerns that Taliban land should not be used for anti-India and terrorist activities.
The Taliban leader has assured to consider these issues positively.
Stanikzai had contacted earlier also
Stanikzai had contacted through sources when India was vacating its embassy after the occupation of Afghanistan.
Asking India to maintain its diplomatic presence in Afghanistan, Stanikzai had said the Taliban was aware of India’s security concerns, but should not be worried about the security of its embassy.

India was told important
In a video uploaded on social media last Saturday, Stanikzai called India important for Asia.
He had said, “India is very important to this continent. We want to maintain cultural, economic and trade relations with India as before.”
He said that trade with India through Pakistan is very important. Trade with India through air routes will also continue. However, he did not say anything on bilateral trade.
Taliban trying to form government
After the occupation of Afghanistan, the Taliban is now trying to form its government here. According to media reports, the Taliban will form their government in the next one week. The Pakistani Foreign Minister has also indicated this.
On the other hand, America’s military operation in Afghanistan is over. The last US military plane took off from Kabul airport on Monday night. The Taliban now control Kabul airport.
