There is an important news for income tax payers. Income Tax Department has launched its new e-filing portal (www.incometax.gov.in) today, 7th June 2021. This new portal will provide convenience and a modern, seamless experience to the taxpayers. The Income Tax Department (ITD) has informed the taxpayers about the launch of the new e-filing portal on 7 June 2021 by sending a message to the taxpayers. ITD said that we are as excited about the new portal as our users. ITD said that these are in the final stages of roll-out of the new portal and it will be available soon.
This service will be available for free
With the launch of the new e-filing portal, the Income Tax Department will also provide free ITR preparation software for Forms ITR-1, ITR-2 and 4.In a statement issued by the Finance Ministry, it was said that free ITR preparation software with interactive questions will be available to help taxpayers for ITR 1, 4 (online and offline) and ITR 2 (offline). Soon the facility of ITR 3, 5, 6, 7 preparation will also be made available.
Know what the portal is used for
Taxpayers use the e-filing portal to file income tax returns and view other details. At the same time, the officers of the tax department including the Assessing Officer, Chief Income Tax Officer for Appeal and Principal Commissioner of Income Tax interact with the taxpayers through e-processing through the portal. Officials also use the portal to issue notices, issue show cause notices and receive responses on various e-processings. In preparation for the transition on this new portal, information was given that the existing e-filing portal was not available for the taxpayers as well as the officers of the department for a period of six days from June 1 to June 6. The officials were asked to schedule the hearing or compliance after June 10 so that taxpayers get time to adjust with the new portal. The pre-scheduled hearings will be adjourned after June 10.
