The ongoing tussle in Punjab Congress does not seem to be stopping at the moment.
Pargat Singh and Razia Sultana stepped down as cabinet ministers after Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned as Punjab Congress chief on Tuesday, while three other office-bearers also resigned. There is speculation that more leaders may also leave their posts.
On the other hand, MLAs in the camp of former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh want that there should be a majority test in the assembly.
Appeal to Captain to demand multiple tests
After Sidhu’s resignation, the Captain camp has become active once again.
According to India Today, several MLAs from the Captain’s camp want a majority test and have asked Amarinder Singh to demand it.
Significantly, the Captain is running angry with the Congress only after being removed from the post of Chief Minister. Expressing his displeasure, he had termed Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi as inexperienced.
Several resignations took place on Tuesday
After Navjot Singh Sidhu, Razia Sultana and Pargat Singh resigned from the cabinet. Both the leaders had taken oath as cabinet ministers two days back.
Showing solidarity with Sidhu, Sultana sent her resignation to Chief Minister Channi and wrote that she would continue to work for the party.
Later talking to reporters, he said that Navjot Singh Sidhu is a man of principles and he is fighting for Punjab and Punjabiyat.
Many office bearers left their posts
Besides the cabinet ministers, Punjab Congress treasurer Gulzar Inder Chahal, general secretary Yoginder Dhingra and general secretary (in-charge training) Gautam Seth also resigned on Tuesday.
Amid the ongoing tussle in the party, speculations are rife that several MLAs and leaders supporting Sidhu may step down in the next few days to put pressure on the high command.
On the other hand, Amarinder Singh has said that Sidhu can contest from any other party.
Chief Minister will hold a meeting with the cabinet
After several resignations on Tuesday, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi will hold a cabinet meeting today. According to the information, the time of 10:30 am has been fixed for the meeting.
At the same time, Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat, who has been circling Chandigarh and Delhi for the past several days, will reach Chandigarh again today along with observer Harish Chaudhary.
It is being told that they will meet the angry leaders and try to resolve the ongoing dispute in the party.
Congress’s troubles increased
After the sudden resignation of Sidhu from the post of state president, a big problem has arisen in front of the Congress party.
Congress first made Amarinder Singh its opponent by resigning due to controversy with Sidhu and now Sidhu has increased the problems of the party high command by resigning from the post of president.
Now the biggest question in front of the party is that who will lead the Congress in the state assembly elections to be held in 2022?
