The top leader of the Taliban’s Haqqani network, Anas Haqqani, on Wednesday made it clear that the Haqqani network has no intention of interfering in the Kashmir issue.
In an interview to CNN-News18, he explained the Haqqani network’s relationship with Pakistan’s ISI and views on India.
Haqqani’s statement came after talks between India and the Taliban in Doha on Tuesday. It has many important meanings.
“Kashmir is not our jurisdiction”
Haqqani clarified, “Kashmir is not part of their jurisdiction and any such interference would be completely against their policy. How can we go against our policy? It is clear that we will not interfere.”
He also reiterated that Haqqani would not support terror groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. He stressed that the Taliban wants good relations with India.
“Media propaganda to tell Haqqanis close ties with Pakistan Army”
On his ties with Pakistan’s military, Haqqani said it was only a rumor spread by the media.
“The media around the world and especially in India is creating negative propaganda about us,” he said.
“No Pakistani weapon was ever used in the war. These allegations are false and baseless,” he said.
He further said that in the current situation, the Taliban wants good relations with the rest of the world.
What else did Haqqani say?
Talking about the Taliban’s policy towards the rest of the world, Haqqani said, “We will not interfere in the affairs of others and we hope that others will also not interfere in our affairs.”
Dismissing reports of violation of women’s rights, he said things will become transparent once policies for men and women are announced. The ‘good news’ about the new government will be announced soon.
Haqqani avoids the question of accepting Durand Rekha
Asked if the Taliban would accept the Durand Line as a permanent border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Haqqani said, “I can’t say anything confirmed right now. Our seniors will decide that and announce.”
Afghan Sikhs and Hindus completely safe – Haqqani
Haqqani also assured that Afghan Sikhs and Hindus are completely safe in Afghanistan. There was some panic and fear in the beginning, but now things have settled down and people are happy. Afghan Sikhs and Hindus are like any other community in Afghanistan and they will live happily ever after.
He said the Taliban welcomes India and the rest of the world to support the people of Afghanistan.
India on Tuesday held first diplomatic talks with Taliban
India on Tuesday established its first diplomatic contact with the Taliban in Qatar’s capital Doha.
The meeting took place between Indian Ambassador to Qatar Deepak Mittal and the head of the Taliban’s political office, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai. India reportedly raised concerns over the use of the territory of Afghanistan by terrorists.
Stanikzai assured India that these issues would be resolved positively.
What is Haqqani Network?
Haqqani Network is a terrorist group and it was founded by the dreaded terrorist and US special Jalaluddin Haqqani.
In the 1980s, the organization had also achieved considerable success in the area of North Waziristan against Soviet forces. Many US officials claim that Haqqani was funded by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
