India has so far given at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine to more than half of its adult population.
On the other hand, states like Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim and Union Territories like Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu have already fed almost 100% of their adult population.
Apart from Himachal and Sikkim, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh are the states which have more than 70 percent
Target to vaccinate the entire adult population by December
If we look at the figures till September 1, about 51 crore people of India have been given at least one dose of the virus. This accounts for 54 percent of the country’s 938 million adult population.
Apart from this, more than 15 crore people have been fully vaccinated.
The government has set a target to vaccinate the entire adult population by December and now the vaccination campaign is also going on at full speed.
Second dose given to a quarter of the population in many states
According to the Indian Express, the states leading the way in vaccination have also given a second dose to about a quarter of their eligible population. On the other hand, in eight large states, the number of people receiving a single dose has not even reached 50 percent.
West Bengal’s worst performance
Each state has already provided at least one dose to 40 per cent of its eligible population.
The worst performer in terms of vaccination coverage is West Bengal, where the lowest 41 percent of the population has been given a single dose.
Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand fared better than West Bengal, but none of them touched the national average of vaccination (54.8 percent).
These states have the lowest coverage of vaccination.
Most coveshield is being used
According to the data released by the government, Serum Institute’s Coveshield is being used the most in the vaccination campaign.
Of the more than 67 crore doses administered in the country, 87 per cent are Kovidshield doses. 12 percent of the doses are from Bharat Biotech’s indigenous vaccine Covaxin and the remaining one percent of Sputnik-V.
A total of six vaccines have been approved so far in the country, but so far only three are being used.
Vaccine for children may come this month
The vaccine may be available for children and adolescents under the age of 18 in India this month.
Phase II and III trials of indigenous vaccine Covaxin are going on in the age group of 2-18 years and their results will be out soon. These results will be submitted to the regulatory body for approval of the vaccine.
It is expected that in September or soon after, Covaxin will be allowed to be used on children.
What is the status of vaccination campaign in the country?
According to the Covin platform, a total of 67,01,26,300 doses of corona virus vaccine have been administered in India so far. In the country, 51,59,19,910 people have been given both doses for the first and 15,42,06,390 people.
